Terms of service
Last updated: 28 October 2026
The short version
- The Exam Pass is one payment, not a subscription. It gives full access until 30 June of the exam season you bought it for.
- If the Lab isn't right for you, email us within 14 days of buying for a full refund.
- Keep your account to yourself and don't copy the questions to share or sell.
- The Lab helps you prepare. It can't guarantee a grade.
- Written answers are marked by AI using our mark scheme rules. The marks are for practice, and you can dispute any of them.
- School licences are covered by an agreement with the school, plus these terms.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Maths Forensics Lab ("the Lab", "we", "us") is an online GCSE maths practice service at lab.mathsforensics.com, run by Maths Forensics (Michael Robert Taylor). Contact: support@mathsforensics.com. Postal address: Calle Cervantes 38 DCHA 5 Madrid 28014 Spain. Full business details are in our legal notice.
These terms apply to everyone who uses the Lab: students, parents and carers, teachers and school admins. By creating an account or using the Lab, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
2. Accounts
- You must give accurate details and keep your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- Accounts are for one person. Don't share your login or let others use your account.
- The Lab is designed for students aged around 14 to 16. Students under 13 should only use it through their school or with a parent or carer who sets up the account and agrees to these terms for them.
- If you're under 18, please make sure a parent or carer is happy for you to use the Lab.
- Teacher and school admin accounts are created by the school and may only be used for the school's own teaching.
3. Free access and the Exam Pass
Free access
A free account includes a selection of topics, every Case briefing, the baseline diagnostic and a sample Exam room question. What's included may change over time.
Exam Pass
- What you get: full access to every topic, the Daily Case, Topic checks and the Exam room for one student.
- How long: until 30 June of the exam season you buy it for. A pass bought between 1 July and 30 June runs until the 30 June at the end of that period.
- Payment: one payment at the price shown at checkout. It is not a subscription and never renews automatically. Payments are handled by our checkout provider, Systeme.io, and its payment partners.
- Unlocking: the pass is linked to the email address used at checkout. Sign in to the Lab with that same email to unlock it. If it doesn't unlock, email us and we'll sort it out.
- Launch prices: where we show an introductory price with an end date, the price really does rise on that date.
Written answers, Check my working and Mike mode
- What they are: features that mark your handwritten working with AI, check it part-way through, or watch it as you write. How AI marking works explains them.
- Weekly allowances: each account has a weekly number of marked answers and Mike mode checks, shown in the Lab. Allowances reset every Monday. Free accounts have a small allowance; some features are only in the Exam Pass. We may change allowances, but won't reduce what's included in a pass you've already bought by a significant amount.
- Our marking rule: we only give a method mark when the method is written down, and an accuracy mark only after a method mark. This is stricter than some exam boards, on purpose, to build habits that protect your marks. Where an exam board would probably give more, the report says so.
4. Cancellation and refunds
The Exam Pass is digital content you can use straight away. By law (the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013), if you ask for access to start immediately and acknowledge that you lose your 14-day right to cancel once it does, that statutory cancellation right ends when access begins. You'll be asked to confirm this at checkout.
We go further: if the Lab isn't right for you, email support@mathsforensics.com within 14 days of your purchase and we'll give you a full refund, no questions asked. Refunds go back to the original payment method and access ends when the refund is made.
This doesn't affect your legal rights. If the Lab is faulty or not as described, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
5. School licences
- School licences are agreed with the school (price, number of student seats, licence dates) by quote, invoice or order form. If that agreement conflicts with these terms, the agreement takes priority.
- Each student who joins a class uses one seat. When seats run out, new students can't join until more are added.
- The school is responsible for who it invites, for removing students and staff who leave, and for having a lawful basis to use the Lab with its students. We act as the school's data processor, as explained in our privacy policy and our data processing agreement with the school.
- When a licence ends and isn't renewed, school access stops and the school's data is deleted or returned as set out in the privacy policy.
6. Using the Lab fairly
Please don't:
- copy, download, scrape, republish, share or sell the Lab's questions, worked solutions, Case briefings or mark schemes;
- try to get into accounts or data that aren't yours, or interfere with the Lab's security or performance;
- use automated tools to answer questions or collect content;
- upload or send anything unlawful, abusive or harmful;
- upload anything other than your own maths working for the question, for example photos of people, other people's work or personal information;
- try to trick the AI marking, for example by writing instructions to it in your working.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. Where it's fair to do so, we'll warn you first and explain why.
7. Our content
The questions, worked solutions, Case briefings, mark schemes, design and branding in the Lab belong to Maths Forensics and are protected by copyright. You may use them for your own study. Teachers with a school licence may show and use them in their own lessons with their students. Any other use needs our written permission.
Maths Forensics is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR or Cambridge. Exam board names are used only to describe the courses the Lab supports.
8. What the Lab can and can't promise
- We write and check every question carefully, but mistakes can happen. If you think an answer is marked wrongly, tell us and we'll check and fix it.
- AI marking can misread handwriting or misjudge a mark. Reports show what the AI read and which marks are provisional. Use "Dispute a mark" within 7 days and a person will review it. AI marks are practice marks: they are not exam results, and schools should not use them on their own for reports, setting or predicted grades.
- Working grades, recommendations and the exam timer are guides to help you study. They are estimates, not predictions of your exam result, and we can't guarantee any grade.
- We aim to keep the Lab available at all times, but it may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control.
- We keep improving the Lab and may add, change or remove features. We won't make changes that significantly reduce what you've already paid for during your pass.
9. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that isn't foreseeable, or for business losses.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for your statutory rights as a consumer.
For school licences, our total liability in any year is limited to the fees the school paid for that year, except where the law doesn't allow this.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. If a change is important, we'll show a notice in the Lab and email account holders and schools before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when these terms were last updated.
11. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear disputes. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim in your local courts, and if you live elsewhere you keep any rights your local consumer law gives you.
If something goes wrong, please email support@mathsforensics.com first. We'll do our best to put it right quickly.
